POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR JULY
For the pastoral care of the sick
Let us pray that the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick grants the Lord’s strength to those who receive it and to their loved ones and that it may become for everyone an ever more visible sign of
compassion and hope.

A big THANK YOU to the organisers and helpers of our first involvement with the Scarecrow Festival – and thank you to everyone who came along to support!
‘WIMBLEDON’ COFFEE MORNING THIS SUNDAY
The theme of next week’s Coffee Morning is ‘Wimbledon’ so what better way to start celebrating all the excitement of SW19 than with strawberries and cream? Please join us after Mass next Sunday. Everyone is most welcome.
HELP WITH THE PRESBYTERY GARDEN AREA
Dave & Tina Kerrigan have been working hard, but there’s a lot to do, so please consider giving an hour of your time to help clear some of the weeds that are strangling our lovely planting in the area in front of the presbytery. Every bit of help makes a huge difference. Many thanks to Dave & Tina and to others who have been working hard.
PARISH LUNCH WITH BISHOP HABILA: Sunday 21 July
We now have 20 parishioners attending. Can we make it to 30? Bishop Habila is really looking forward to meeting as many parishioners as possible. Tickets (£5) from Vivienne.
AUGUST DATES
15 August: Assumption of Our Lady – Mass at 7pm, with hymns. Holy day of Obligation. Wine & nibbles after Mass in church. All welcome.
24 August: Ladyewell Pilgrimage. Please sign the list in the porch. This week, we will be extending the invitation to our family of parishes in order to encourage more numbers.
MISSAL ALTAR STAND; The wooden stand is in need of repair. Please can anyone help?
LIVERPOOL ARCHDIOCESAN YOUTH PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES
The Liverpool Archdiocesan Youth Pilgrimage to Lourdes departs on Thursday 18th July and Coach 5 covers the areas of Orrell, Upholland, Chorley, Leyland and Penwortham. This year we have 41 young people on Coach 5, aged between 15 and 22, who will be serving our Assisted Pilgrims. This year the pastoral theme for Lourdes is “....so that all may come in procession“. With this in mind, the seven youth coaches will carry a lantern in procession throughout the week which will contain Prayer Intention cards. At the end of the pilgrimage, these cards will be left at the Grotto. There are five different cards which can be used:
For blessings received
For worries and anxieties
For those who are sick
For those who have died
Special Intention
If you would like us to take any Prayer Intention cards for you, please complete one (or more) of the prayer intention slips available in the porch and post through the presbytery door / leave in the porch for next week (14 July)
Ben McMullen, Deputy Director of Education, Liverpool Archdiocese
A LOVELY DONATION
A very kind and generous donation has been left for us, that arrived anonymously through the presbytery door last week. Thank you so much! It would be great if the kind donor could indicate how it is to be used, or what they had in mind for it. Please either pop a note (anonymously, if appropriate) through the presbytery letter box, or have a quiet word with Fr John – in absolute confidence.
LOST PROPERTY!
There are an ever-increasing number of personal items that have been left in church over the last few months. Please check the table in the porch, to reclaim, before they go off for recycling. Many thanks.
MASS INTENTONS
Mass intentions are welcome, not just for our dear departed, but for any other occasion eg in thanksgiving, successful outcome (exams / operation), wedding / anniversary blessings. Please write your name and intention, with the preferred date – if applicable – on a piece of paper and place in an envelope, along with your offering, either in the weekly offertory basket or through the presbytery door. Every effort will be made to find a date as near as possible.
DISUSED GLASSES / SPECTACLES
Please have a rummage at home and bring old prescription glasses along. They can be used by opticians in Africa to help local communities.
OFFERTORY ENVELOPES + GIFT AID
If you are a taxpayer then you can easily help the parish to claim 25% extra on top of every donation you make. Eg: a donation of £5 per week would result in £6.25 going to the church. Filling in a simple form to register your name and address means we can claim an additional 25% of your gift. If you are able to help, please collect a form from the porch on your way out today, complete and return to the Parish Office.
In addition, you may wish to consider using an offertory envelope (they are free and use re-cycled paper) in which to make your weekly donation. It’s akin to ‘wrapping up your gift’ for Our Lord! Again, please contact the Parish Office if you’d like to start using them.
