SYNOD SUNDAY – 13 OCTOBER: Please collect the information leaflet and prayer cards after Mass today, ready for Synod Sunday on 13 October. The responses of over 20,000 people have been analysed over the summer and 4 themes identified from them. These themes will help us to formulate proposals, ready for next year’s Synod. Parishioners will be invited to attend 4 meetings between October 2019 and March 2020, in order to find out more about these themes and to consider how we might form our parish proposals. We need your reflections and ideas! Dates of the meetings will be announced soon. For further information, please visit the Synod 2020 website: www.synod2020.co.uk
CANONISATION OF CARDINAL JOHN HENRY NEWMAN – 13 OCTOBER: Pope Francis will declare John Henry Newman to be a Saint next week.

FOODBANK; Many thanks for all your very generous donations. We have now provided foodstuffs for over 20 families in Southport (via the Trussell Trust at the Lakeside Centre). The Centre has plenty of tins of soup and beans and dried pasta, but tins of veg, meat and long-life fruit juices are currently in short supply. Your kindness is very much appreciated.
REFLECTION – Bl. John Henry Newman (1801-90)
God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments.
Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about.”
“I sought to hear the voice of God and climbed the topmost steeple, but God declared: “Go down again – I dwell among the people.”
