SPONSORED ARCTIC SURVIVAL CHALLENGE
Margaret Dickinson and her parents, Sean & Peggie O’Kane were regulars at SS. Peter and Paul’s (and Holy Cross) for over 50 years. Sean passed away in 2017 and Peggie, in February this year.  Margaret and family have now moved to our parish in Tarleton.  In memory of her Mum, Margaret is undertaking the Arctic Challenge next February, in order to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.  She’ll be heading to the Arctic Circle to build snow shelters, drive huskies, fish though the ice and ski cross-country.  This ‘adventure’ was planned with Peggie during her final months and Margaret is keen to honour that commitment.  If you would like to find out more and are interested in sponsoring Margaret, please see her Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Margaret-DIckinson2

MUSIC FOR AN AUTUMN EVENING: Saturday 26 November
Our local residents’ charity, Hesketh Bank & Tarleton Helpers is presenting a music evening with hotpot supper in our church hall on 26 November.  Guest singers include the Hoghton Players G & S Society and local singer Kirstie Mitchell.  The bar will be open and there will also be a raffle.  This promises to be a great evening’s entertainment and all funds raised will be going to support the vital work of our local foodbanks. Tickets are £7 each and are available from Diane Mackley on 01772 815508.  Please inform her of any dietary requirements.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY: CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE & FAYRE – SUNDAY 18 DECEMBER
This year sees the very welcome return of our Christmas activities, so please make a note in your diaries. 
Our Carol Service will be held on Sunday 18 December, at 6pm.
Afterwards, everyone is warmly invited to bring family and friends to the church hall for some seasonal refreshments in the hall, to help get the Christmas season started with a swing.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
1. There will also be a Christmas Craft & Plant stall for last minute purchases – all to start raising funds for repairs and improvements to our wonderful hall. Contributions for this stall will be very gratefully accepted: Please start making Christmas tree decorations (knitted / crochet), cushions, aprons etc, etc. plus young plants / any other Christmas-themed gifts.
2. We are also holding a Christmas Raffle.  Please bring raffle prizes to the presbytery on Thursdays during office hours, or leave in the porch when you come to Mass on Sundays.

ARCHDIOCESE RESPONSE TO UKRAINE

PLEASE CONSIDER OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED IN OUR PARISH
We are very grateful for offers of help already, with regards to gardening jobs and keeping the grounds of the church neat and tidy.  Thank you!
However, there are still a number of opportunities for our parishioners to become a bit more involved in parish life and your help is both needed and much appreciated.  Areas where help is needed include with the Little Church group on Sundays, singing with the choir, flower arranging, church cleaning, altar serving and some serious fund-raising.  Help is welcome from all ages, and advice / training will be provided. Please contact the Parish Office by email or ring on Thursdays, in order to find out more.

HELP FOR RESIDENTS & OUR LOCAL FOODBANK: We will continue to support the amazing work being done by Rev Dave Dickinson at All Saint’s in Hesketh Bank, by collecting non-perishable foodstuffs for local families.  Thank you for all donations made so far.  They are helping to support three local families who are really struggling at the moment.  This is likely to increase as fuel prices start to have an effect this autumn and winter.  Please let Diane Mackley know if you have any concerns about neighbours over the next few months and we’ll do our best to help them, 01772 815508.

UKRAINE APPEAL – INTERNATIONAL AID TRUST
The IAT remains grateful for any further help: medical supplies / foodstuffs.  Donations may be left in the church hall on Thursdays between 11am and 3pm. Alternatively, you can bring donations to Mass and leave in the porch.  Thank you to many of you who have already left donations.

LOCAL HELP FOR AFGHAN REFUGEES
You’ll have realised that a lot of local areas are trying to work out how they can best support refugees from Afghanistan over the next weeks and months.  In Hesketh Bank and Tarleton, donations of clothes are being accepted by the Christian Centre (off Moss Lane) on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9.30am and 11.30am.  The initial response from locals has been extremely encouraging, so the Christian Centre is currently storing a lot of items ready to hand over to Care4Calais, as and when they need it.  Care4Calais is specifically asking for the following items, which must be in good condition:

  • baby / children’s clothes & shoes (trainers)
  • jeans and leggings
  • t-shirts
  • hoodies

Donations are also being collected in Aughton L39 5DW: Please email mcevoyden@gmail.com to arrange drop-off time / venue.

Redemptorist Publications is pleased to introduce Celebrate: an initiative designed to help children grow in their faith. 
Each week they will provide a Children’s Liturgy in the form of a video of the week’s Gospel reading, a reflection and a final prayer.

Children’s religious programmes, based on the teachings of Jesus, are available on EWTN every week day, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm – and on Saturday mornings, from 9am to 10am.

OFFERTORY DONATIONS
Many thanks to generous parishioners who have sent in donations to our churches. Your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated.
Instead of putting money in offertory envelopes each week, those who are able to make an offering are asked to complete a Standing Order Mandate for your bank, from either your parish office. We can email the document to you, if you wish, so that you can print off, complete and send to your bank.
Alternatively, you may still wish to write a  cheque (payable to ‘Our Lady Help of Christians Church’ ) and post to the presbytery with a covering letter and one offertory envelope for gift aid purposes.
