POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR SEPTEMBER

2nd COLLECTION THIS WEEK (21 September): Evangelii Gaudium (Home Missions)
I believe…
Evangelii Gaudium Sunday is celebrated in our parishes on 21 September 2025. This year, the Church has been celebrating a significant anniversary. It’s 1,700 years since the Council of Nicaea. This great gathering of Bishops from around the Church began the work to formulate the creed we proclaim Sunday by Sunday. It is the content of this creed that is our mission, so that we may know and love God in this life, in order to be happy with him forever in the next. The creed begins with a profound proclamation, “I believe…”
This is the theme for Evangelii Gaudium Sunday 2025.
COUNTING AT MASS – 4 WEEKS
The Archdiocese requires us to count the number of parishioners attending Sunday Masses over a four week period. The more, the merrier!
Please can welcomers count and check numbers for the next four weeks. Many thanks.
PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: Wednesday 24 September at 7.15pm in the hall
CAFOD HARVEST FAMILY FAST DAY – 3 OCTOBER – THEME: ‘LOVE OF OUR NEIGHBOUR’
Pope Leo XIV urges us to recognise those experiencing poverty as “witnesses to steadfast hope, precisely because they embody it in the midst of uncertainty, poverty, instability and marginalisation.” Your generosity offers signs of hope in this Jubilee year, helping build more water tanks in Ethiopian communities, where women have to walk for hours just to get to a water standpipe.
CAFOD envelopes will be available next week. Please remember to gift aid, if you can. Every penny counts!
FAMILY OF PARISHES SURVEY
Please make sure that you have a survey form from our family of parishes, so that you can be reflecting on the important questions affecting our parish over the next few years. Forms are available in the porch and will be collected in October.
HELP NEEDED TO KEEP A CLEAN CHURCH– AFTER MASS NEXT WEEK, 28 SEPTEMBER
Mary, our volunteer cleaner and parishioner, kindly looked after the church for many years, before moving away a few months ago. Diane is very keen to recruit a team of willing helpers to do this on a rota basis, each month. If you’re happy to help out, please bring your favourite cleaning products and tools along to Mass next week for a group cleaning session. The more, the merrier – and less time-consuming! Thank you.
LITTLE CHURCH – 2nd & 4th SUNDAY (Next session: 28 September)
All children up to the age of 11 are very welcome to attend our very fun and lively children’s liturgy sessions on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month. Emma, Joanne and Keren are fully qualified and have EDBS registrations, so your child is/children are in very good hands, whilst you remain in church for the readings and Father’s homily.
PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO LADYEWELL
Those who attended the day of pilgrimage last Saturday enjoyed a really lovely, very spiritual and reflective time. Thank you to everyone.
SPONSORED HAIRCUT FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
Ruth Melia is planning to have half her hair cut off in order to raise funds for Macmillan cancer Support. Please see her after Mass if you’re willing to sponsor her for this very worthy and important cause.
LEAFLETS FOR OUR MILLENNIAL SAINTS – available in the porch
ST CARLO ACUTIS
This extraordinary 15-year old boy was canonised by Pope Leo last Sunday. St Carlo is the first millennial saint, whose life constantly bore witness to a deep love of the Eucharist and the power of faith. He offered his suffering (when diagnosed with leukaemia) to Pope Benedict and the Church. St Carlo, please pray for us…
ST PIER GIORGIO FRASSATI
A young campaigner and activist for social reform and social justice. Humble and committed in everything he did.
St Pier, pray for us and for all those in need…
CHURCH FOODBANK UP-DATE FOR SUMMER 2025
We are suspending our foodbank collections over the summer months and will resume in the autumn.
However, help is still available to purchase weekly vouchers for the Tarleton Food Pantry (Monday mornings).
RED MISSION BOXES
Please bring your red boxes to church over the next few weeks, so that they can be counted and the money go to the APF Missions, which is much needed. Please let Diane know if you’d like to arrange collection of your box.
PRAYERFUL REFLECTION BEFORE MASS
Some of our parishioners who like to pray and have a few moments of quiet reflection before the start of Mass. And of course, we have every opportunity to have a chat and catch-up after Mass.
Our monthly coffee mornings provide an ideal occasion for this!
CHURCH CLEANING / FLOWER ARRANGING
Thank you to those who have already said that they’d be interested in helping out. Diane would like to start putting rotas together, so please can you let her know your availability. Church cleaning is only twice a month and flower arranging is every other week. Please have a word with her after Mass today, or ring on 07876 363779. Thank you.
VOTIVE CANDLES
People have been asking how much they should donate for a votive candle. Fr John is happy to leave it to your discretion, as all donations will be gratefully received – whenever they are made.
GLUTEN FREE SACRAMENT AVAILABLE
Please indicate to Fr John if you need to receive a gf host when you come to receive communion.
ST IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA: The Loving Generosity of Christ
He is generous to exhaustion and what is most wonderful is that he gives himself thus entirely, not once only but every
day, if we wish it. Every fresh Communion is a new gift, which Jesus Christ makes of himself.

MASS INTENTIONS
Mass intentions are welcome, not just for our dear departed, but for any other occasion eg in thanksgiving, successful outcome (exams / operation), wedding / anniversary blessings. Please write your name and intention, with the preferred date – if applicable – on a piece of paper and place in an envelope, along with your offering, either in the weekly offertory basket or through the presbytery door. Every effort will be made to find a date as near as possible.
DISUSED GLASSES / SPECTACLES
Please have a rummage at home and bring old prescription glasses along. They can be used by opticians in Africa to help local communities.
OFFERTORY ENVELOPES + GIFT AID
If you are a taxpayer then you can easily help the parish to claim 25% extra on top of every donation you make. Eg: a donation of £5 per week would result in £6.25 going to the church. Filling in a simple form to register your name and address means we can claim an additional 25% of your gift. If you are able to help, please collect a form from the porch on your way out today, complete and return to the Parish Office.
In addition, you may wish to consider using an offertory envelope (they are free and use re-cycled paper) in which to make your weekly donation. It’s akin to ‘wrapping up your gift’ for Our Lord! Again, please contact the Parish Office if you’d like to start using them.
