PARISH NEWSLETTER

THIS WEEK’S NOTICES & READINGS / REFLECTIONS

We join Pope Francis in his prayer intention for April:
For health care workers
We pray for health care workers who serve the sick and the elderly, especially in the poorest countries; may they be adequately supported by governments and local communities

Let us pray
That all Christians may strive for holiness by repenting of past sins;
That all who doubt or distrust the Gospel message may recognise the risen Christ in the goodness and kindness of others and learn to turn to God in faith and love;
That the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ for all people may teach us that there is no such thing as a worthless life, or a person God does not love;
That as Covid restrictions are lifted and more people receive their vaccinations, may the bonds of our relationships be renewed and strengthened

We pray now in the words Jesus gave us:
Our Father, who art in heaven…

Our children will be meeting after 9.30am Mass next Sunday, 17th April – Easter Day – in order to continue their preparation for making their 1st Communion in June.  This is the seventh and final session before a special practice next month, and it focuses on Jesus and the Eucharist: Being Called to Follow Him.  Please remember the children and their families in your prayers.

PARISH ACTIVITIES
Our parish is slowly picking up from where we left off just over two years ago and parishioners, old and new, are very welcome to join in to help get things moving again!

  • Monthly Coffee Mornings are starting again – the first Sunday in every month
  • Singing at Sunday Mass is restored as from Easter – thanks to Linda and Margaret & choir members
  • Our Little Church sessions are also starting, with an exciting programme of activities for our children (including 1st Communion children) every Sunday. Many thanks to Emma O’Hare, who has kept the programme going through various lockdowns, via Zoom.
Please help to spread the word!

Volunteers are welcome to help / take part in these activities and others.  Please contact the Parish Office if you’d like to find out more about what our parish has to offer – and how you can get involved.
As well as the activities mentioned above (choir, Little Church, coffee mornings) help is also needed for lawn-mowing, transporting goods for Ukraine to the IAT at Lostock Hall.

STATUE OF CHRIST
Thanks to the efforts of parishioners and generous donors, our statue is now fully restored.  Deo Gratias!  Our friendly local community police are helping to ensure that the statue remains intact for many years to come.

MASS INTENTIONS
Mass offerings may also be made for important family occasions such as anniversaries and weddings, successful outcomes (exams / operations) as well as for our dear departed.  Please write your intention and place with your offering in an envelope in the offertory basket, or pop it through the presbytery door. Please note that that the intention may not be able to celebrated on the day specified as another intention may have already been booked, or there may not be Mass on that particular day. Thank you for your understanding.

WEEKLY COVID UP-DATE FOR TARLETON & HESKETH BANK
37 cases reported in Tarleton and Hesketh Bank up to 5 April –  a fall of 32 so we have now fallen below the national average.  82 people are in Southport Hospital this week – a further increase of 27 (49% increase).
The number dying has jumped from 4 to 12 in the last week.
13% of residents in West Lancs have yet to have any vaccination at all
Re-infections are rising extremely quickly, therefore the advice remains to wear a face mask when in an enclosed space, test regularly and self-isolate until you have two consecutive days of negative results.
To keep up-to-date with local figures, go to www.coronavirus.data.gov.uk and enter your postcode. There is also information on vaccinations.

MUSICAL TREAT FOR THE WEEK
Hosanna – 2000 Film | Jesus Christ Superstar – YouTube
This week, a clip from the 2000 film of the hit musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.  This version perfectly captures the fear of the scribes and pharisees, Jesus’ own mixed emotions as he enters his beloved city of Jerusalem for the last time – and the drama of the final moment, when Jesus stands between Judas and Mary Magdalen…

WITH EVERY BLESSING FOR THE NEXT WEEK FOR PARISHIONERS & FAMILIES

LET’S KEEP TALKING – SUPPORT FOR ANYONE SUFFERING IN ANY WAY AS A RESULT OF THE PANDEMIC
Please pick up a leaflet on your way into/out of church, from Lancs & S Cumbria Mental Health Support.  Help is out there if you’re struggling to cope, or you know someone who is struggling.

LATEST UPDATES  FROM WEST LANCS COUNCIL (w/e 10 January)
If you have been vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine, you are less to become severely ill if you catch COVID-19. You are also less likely to spread COVID-19 to other people, but it is still possible for this to happen. Therefore:
1.  If you are aged 18 years 6 months or over and you are not fully vaccinated, and you live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, you are legally required to stay at home and self-isolate
2. If you are fully vaccinated or aged under 18 years and 6 months, and you live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, you are not legally required to self-isolate. However, you are strongly advised to take an LF test every day for 7 days, and to self-isolate if any of these test results is positive
3. You may be entitled to a one-off payment of £500 through the Test & Trace Support Payment Scheme if you are required to stay at home and self-isolate or you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate.
4. A booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is available for everyone aged 12 and over, and some people aged 16 and over, who have had 2 doses of the vaccine at least 3 months ago. Book your booster vaccination appointment or find a walk-in vaccination site.
5.  Everyone aged 12 and over can get a 1st and 2nd dose of the vaccine (Including children who turn 12 on the date of the vaccination).
6. Household Support Fund – West Lancashire Borough Council are now receiving applications from residents who do not have enough resources to meet their immediate short-term needs and require assistance with essential items over the winter period. This grant can be used to help towards the cost of:
 food
 energy / water needs
 essentials linked to energy / water needs
 wider essentials such as household bills, clothing, and white goods.
 help towards transport costs for COVID-19/booster vaccinations
It is not intended to cover debt advice or general financial hardship support which is not linked to food, warmth and/or hygiene. The fund is not intended to cover housing costs as there are other benefits and support available to help with these for example Discretionary Housing Payments. Awards will be made where there is no alternative means of meeting the need. To find out if you are eligible, visit The Household Support Fund: Household Support Fund – West Lancashire Borough Council (westlancs.gov.uk)

REGULAR WEEKLY NOTICES

MASS ON SUNDAYS
As you may be aware, our Bishops have lifted the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.
To keep Sundays holy, it might be helpful to spend some time reading the Scriptures.  Besides your Bible, the Magnificat publication can be a wonderful aid to prayer and of course, you also get the readings for Mass for every day of the week!  At a cost of less than £1 a week, you may be interested in subscribing now: tel. 020 7448 3618; email: uk@magnificat.com or visit the website: www.catholic-herald.myshopify.com

Masses will continue to be live-streamed and televised for many months yet, so you can still take part in Sunday worship and the Act of Spiritual Communion will continue to be an important part of people’s worship for the foreseeable future.
If you have any queries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

THE ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.

Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
